1. Refined feminine. Crisp black and white stripes paired with soft misty blue create a chic, elegant look that is easy to love. Keep accessories pared down and simple, with favorite bags and jewelry on display and a few simply framed art prints on the wall. Bring in delicious texture with a cuddly mohair throw and smooth sateen sheets.
by Michelle Miller Interiors
2. Dapper gent. As polished and tailored as a bespoke suit, this look is based around handsome materials like wool, wood and leather, and traditional menswear patterns like a windowpane check and plaids. Furniture with clean lines and neatly tucked bedding keep things looking fresh and modern, while a monogrammed accent injects a bit of personality.
by PLATEMARK DESIGN
3. Old-world comfort. Plump cushions and deep bedcovers are pure luxury. The patina of age on a mirror paired with full-length drapes and a personal collection of antiques call to mind venerable old European hotels. Silvery gray-blue paint, plush wall-to-wall carpeting and creamy bedding are a serene match for this look.

4. Fresh romantic. Pure linen sheets or pillow shams, flowing white curtains and fresh flowers are musts for this look. Practicing a bit of restraint will keep it from veering into froufrou territory — a bit of a ruffle perhaps, but skip the floral prints. Walls painted a pale minty green provide a soothing backdrop.
by Jeanette Lunde
5. Boho glam. Pick a classic decorator favorite (like the upholstered bed with nailhead trim shown here) to build the room around, then mix and match accessories at whim. Bamboo blinds and colorful printed bedding paired with a glass-top table and a fun framed print add up to a laid-back yet glamorous look.

6. Parisian chic. A restrained palette of black and white can feel really luxurious, especially when you choose textures and details that thrill the senses. Smooth dark (or even painted) wood floors and crisp white walls create an envelope to fill with little luxuries — fine sheets and a delicate coverlet, a petite chandelier, a velvet cushion. Add a bit of sparkle with a few vintage perfume bottles and spritz sheets with linen water before slipping in for the night.
by MR.MITCHELL
7. Vintage charm. If you can't pass up a flea market or "junktique" shop without running in, this look is for you. Collect what catches your eye and your heartstrings, without worrying whether the it will fit perfectly — after all, you can always paint it. Having one modern print in the mix, whether on cushions or a re-covered chair, is a great way to keep this look feeling fresh and current.
by Sara Tuttle Interiors
8. Warm modern. Keep a clean, minimalist look from being too cold with a stroke of fiery red or orange. Here, a wide striped bedcover echoes the color in an oversize painting. If a painting of this magnitude is beyond your current budget, consider stretching a length of bold fabric on stretchers meant for canvas (find them in art stores). Choose a simple platform-style bed and slim task lamps, then fill out the room with a healthy potted plant and a vase of flowers.
by emily jagoda
9. Cozy rustic. Raw, unfinished wood is key to this look, but you don't need to splurge on a big piece to make it work. Use a plain wood slice (find it in a crafts store) as a tray to hold bedside necessities, repurpose a wood stump as a table or bring in a few rustic wooden boxes as bedroom storage. Create warmth with cozy patchwork quilts, wool blankets and faux fur pillows — and if you have a pair of cowboy boots, be sure to leave them out on display.
by Dan Joseph Architects
10. Color pops. Liven up a plain bedroom with an accent wall covered in fabulously bold wallpaper. For the truly fearless, choose a contrasting color (like the yellow here against the peacock blue wall) for the bedside tables and cushions. If you prefer to limit your pop to one place, choose a white or wood headboard and tables, and layer on neutral (but deliciously textured) bedding.

Tell us: Which look is your favorite? What would your dream bedroom look like?

Rough Linen I think I'd go for elemental luxe: only the essentials, but softest down, strongest linens, warmest wool, and wood, iron and leather. A hint of metrosexual Mad Max.

paulinas My fiance and I did a bedroom makeover and I think it would fall into the modern minimalist look although it seems like we have a very close color scheme to the first category of "refined feminine." I guess what sets it apart from that category is the dark wood tone of the bed. We love it. Oh and regarding the art, I did a little DIY project by taking pictures of our hands formed in half heart shapes. Here is a photo:

Becky Harris Wow, even though you have found a wide range of styles, I find that every single one of them appealed to me very much. Bravo!

paulinas I agree with Becky. Great choices for this ideabook!

jdforney I find that doing a deep clean (including vacuuming under the bed) makes a huge difference in the bedroom. And ironed sheets are a luxury that only takes about 30 minutes (and no cost!!!)

I love the photo of the Parisian bedroom. The black bed is so lovely that I am almost considering finding a black fitted bed skirt for my room. Somehow, though, I don't imagine my 9X9 bedroom with 8 foot ceilings & a 1930 builder ceiling light will look the same as the stunning image above.

joan settina OMG #10 with the peacock design on the walls is appalling. I can only envision headaches and nightmares.

Becky Harris @Tricia Rose Rough Linen - "Metrosexual Mad Max" - will you PLEASE do an ideabook I can look at about that? I am so intrigued!!!

midmodfan I love - surprise, surprise - the warm modern. White walls, wooden floors, clean lined furniture, a pop of color and, most important: wide open windows without stuffy curtains. Aaah, the breeze!
lisalovesquilts Jdforney I wouldn't give up - great things come in small parcels! I think you could do something not dissimilar in your space if that's your style. I suppose you'd have to think on smaller scale items of furniture and vertical storage.

Howells Architecture + Design, LLC There's some nice variation here. Black and white with pale blue is very appealing. And we're all for a pop of red. Warmly modern is always a goal in the homes and interior appointments we design. We attach a pic of a bedroom from a custom residential commission in Wyoming. A kind of "restrained rustic"--or so we hope.

Corryn Gow I'm looking for mirrored furniture/glamour without it being too fussy ... it's a tricky line to walk. Do you have any suggestions please?
jkristamagee Jdforney- you are SOOOO correct on the ironed sheets. I will admit that I love clean and organized in my home but it can sometimes be overwhelming with my son and husband not to mention my military career nursing and being back in school but ironing my sheets is not even in the "work" section to me. I actually think of it as rewarding myself lol- yes I do love it that much! Nothing like ending my blessed day in such a soothing way!

JAN MOYER GREAT pics.. it can't escape anyone.... that all the beds look freshly MADE.. "Veddy veddy" interesting!

mrsben Fantastic article, Laura. Definitely something here for just about every taste.

@CorrynGow: Re mirrored furniture and photo attached. It is a DIY project that I came across and IMO wasn't too overdone (fussy) and would be easy to achieve to add a little sparkle to an otherwise tired looking piece of furniture. If interested do a web search: A Little Glass Box and also type in 'Mirror, Mirror on the Table'. (Archive: Jan. 9/2012) As she doesn't give complete instructions as to HOW TO, you will have to scroll through the comments. Hope this helps as you may already own a piece of furniture that you can convert since recycling can be a good thing. ☺

@Paulinas: You did a gorgeous job. Very Zen! I too would love to know how you made the side tables and/or their source. (Thank you!)

clball43 @ paulinas, I love your bedroom, love the wall color. The shadows from the lighting makes it appear as clouds are in the room, which gives off a soothing effect. Can you please explain how you made the side tables? Those are great. You guys did a wonderful job! Thanks for posting the pic.

kromity Becky loved what you two have done. Did you make your lights or did you buy them and if so where. They create a nice pattern on the wall.

paulinas Thanks all for your nice comments about our bedroom! We did a lot of projects last year mostly on our own and with the help of my dad, so it's nice to know that even though we are not professionals in this industry, people still like what we did :-)
@mrsben and @clball43 The side tables were kind of my idea and we actually made the whole bed frame. The lower flat part of the table is attached to the flat part of the bed frame, if that makes sense. It might look like they are attached to the wall, but they are not. Also, they're just made of 3 pieces of plywood:the 2 flat parts and 1 vertical. I'm not sure if that helps ;-)
@kromity: We got the lights here:
http://atgstores.com/products/view.aspx?sku=6976374&linkloc=singleSearchResult
but we got those a while ago,and it looks like they are out of stock. Maybe some other online lighting store still has them. Hope this helps!

Casart Coverings @ jsettina- Don't give up on the peacock pattern. If it's too bold, perhaps a softer color or different design, or just use as an accent, like a pillow. With the ones below, if you don't like them, you can easily remove as they do not require paste or glue.

mrsben @Paulinas: THANK YOU for the info. as much appreciated. It definitely proves what creativity and talent can do as it looks very professional IMO!!!!!!

ardleyhut I just have to say, ironing the sheets?? Do people still do that?? Who has the time?
JAN MOYER Ardleyhut,
Ironing the master sheets really doesn't take much time. A bed needs only two sets of sheets, so having a clean, ironed set ready to go on is easier than you think. I like Sunday for a linen change, so tend to just set the board in front of the tube, fold top sheet in half length wise neatly and iron with scented linen spray. Flip over, repeat, and fold it up. Same with bottom, and cases are a breeze. Tada, you're done! The whole process takes no more than 15 minutes, and next week when those go on the bed......aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. People think it's too much trouble, but those eight hours in the "rack" are pretty precious, it DOES feel wonderful to climb in, and yes... they stay largely wrinkle free all week : ) If your kids want theirs ironed.....tell them to HAVE AT IT!

Christine McCollister Ironed sheets are amazing! When i don't have time i just iron the pillow cases and that is almost as good. Use lavender linen water and its heaven!
Casart Coverings @ Christine-I also just iron about a foot down from the top of the border on the sheets instead of the whole sheet. In addition to lavender ironing water, try lemon...smells so fresh.

missicamps The first bedroom refined feminine was almost perfect....the headboard and lampshade on the dresser should've been a solid color the stripes were too much and made the room slightly off and masculine looking. Other than than that I love the over all look. All the rooms are gorgeous it's hard to choose a favorite! #3,4,6,9 were all great too! Love the simplicity of 4, the elegance of 3 and 6, and the cozy rustic of 9 is a nice departure from the norm.

Lesli DeVito and My Old Country House I am torn...love boho glam , but also Parisian chic...maybe I love Parisian Glam! Our bedroom is okay but I would love to soften it up a bit....

Christine McCollister @Casart Coverings- love the lemon idea! I also like ZUM products they are awesome with frankincense myrrh laundry detergent and sprays, all natural and the smell LASTS and is like no other. They have lots of flavors, citrus almond, sandalwood citrus are other favs.

Pioneer woman puts the fitted sheet on slightly damp and lets it dry before finishing the bed to ensure a nice crisp sheet. I have to admit i do hate ironing. And i avoid it whenever possible. But ironed sheets are something i discovered just a few years ago and it is such a nice treat.
