"I went with a supersimple, inexpensive, nature-inspired tablescape," says Houzz user editedinteriors. "It is basically white, silver and blue with some natural color coming from the magnolia leaves, pinecones and burlap. I picked up the two white bird ornaments at a local florist. As it happened, a guest brought everyone chocolates in blue and white boxes — perfect fit for the table!"

Houzzer Shari and two of her friends got creative when setting up a luncheon for the women of Goat Hill Fair. They kept things simple and green, repurposing items like a vintage wool blanket as a table runner. The china and glassware are mixed and matched, and the oranges make one think of a time when oranges were a big stocking treat.

A serendipitous trip to Marshalls spurred alkihouse to go all red and white for her table — she scooped up these cheerful plates and designed around them.

For Christmas morning, Vignette Design completed another clever tablescape using red and green tartan placemats with pinecones on a cake stand serving as a yuletide centerpiece.

Houzz user pennymoon has a quiet dinner for four planned in her newly remodeled eat-in kitchen. "I love the traditional red and green decor, but I added a touch of whimsy by adding lime-green accents to the centerpiece and with the ornaments that adorn each plate," she says.

"I went with gold, ivory and crystal," says ejheather. She dressed the table for just $13. She used wide ribbon for the chairs and runner, tied gold ribbon around the cloth napkins, spray painted the chargers gold, made the tablecloth out of fabric her grandmother bought in Asia 40 years ago and added ornaments from the Dollar Store.

"Christmas dinner is our time to sit back and feel the warm glow of the holiday season," says smithde. "This tablescape helps to set the tone with rich reds and golds."

Blogger suzannevos set this table for a tablescape exhibition to benefit Habitat for Humanity. "My book club buddy and I call it 'A Victorian Christmas' and used Pride and Prejudice as our inspiration to create what we think represents Christmas in the garden."

As for her own dining room, suzannevos says, "My table is typically set with gold and ivory and leans toward a Victorian style. The tree in the corner mimics the decorations on the tabletop with gold angels, hearts and flowers throughout."

"Tablescaping and Christmas are two of my all-time favorite topics," says blogger Susan Nowell. "Our table is still adorned with a gorgeous hand-painted Christmas tablecloth I found at a thrift store in Brazil while working with Hope Unlimited for Children."

Here is one of Nowell's past tablescapes, a wondrous mix of silver, glass, china and faux snow.

"I invariably start my living and dining room decoration with setting the dining room table, trying different versions," says Houzz user Michelle. "This will then determine what kind of ambience I will choose for my trees, out of the hundreds of glass, pearl or silver ornaments I have collected over the past 20 years." This theme, used in the past, is "Dreaming of a Blue Christmas."

This is the base of Michelle's tablescape plans for this year, which she'll switch up with accessories depending on the guests and the mood of the occasion.

"My rustic and refined dining room table is set with a special Christmas Eve dinner for six in mind," says Houzzer Suzy. "The guests will include our parents and adult children. The grandchildren will be off visiting their other grandparents for a few hours, so this gave me the opportunity to create an intimate table that will invite a leisurely meal and good conversation."

Lou I love Suzy's wooden reindeer and the baubles under the glass cloche. I also love Michelle's blue and white theme with minimal festive decor. The cutwork cloths are a nice touch too. I also love Shari's luncheon place settings. I bet those oranges smell great too.

I haven't visited Houzz for over a year now (time poor) but have missed your posts Becky. Nice to see you are still here and still curating some wonderful finds. Thanks to you and all who shared.

Gina Fitzsimmons ASID Our Coastal Christmas Tabletop is done with traditional colors with a more contemporary flair. Our centerpiece of shells and Silvered Pine Cones is in a large red compote. We served our dessert in very contemporary Martini glasses. You don't always have to use dishes and glasses for their intended purpose, branch out, experiment! We did large gift tags for the seating cards and silver chargers under our plates. We took some small antique bottles and added one perfect rose by each setting. You would be surprised what you can pull together from what you already have.

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel Many beautiful ideas, but I think Lireese's is the most practical: decorating the chandelier and leaving room to actually eat on the table.

acpaint Theses are pretty. I have an orange wall and seaside accents throughout my house so I tried something new for this year's table setting.

Susan Nowell @ My Place to Yours Becky, I've been busy celebrating with family and just saw this great ideabook. So glad I didn't miss it! Thank you for including two of my tablescapes. As some of the commenters have noted, many of the tablescapes aren't practical from a "where do you put the food?" perspective. However, when serving buffet-style as many people do for a large gathering, they're the perfect visual feast to complement the meal!

I've really enjoyed your ideabooks this year and look forward to more in the new year!
