1. Gold and turquoise in Texas. Houzz readers loved the bold statement the designer made with the curves of the chairs, table and chandelier, as well as the texture provided by the antiqued mirror and blue walls.

2. Contemporary open fireplace in Denver. A double-sided fireplace both separates and connects the dining and living rooms in this ranch house. The mix of stone tiles on the floor and fireplace complements the shell chandelier — a combination Houzzers loved.

3. Simple and spacious in Chicago. Blue was a popular color for dining rooms on Houzz this year, including this traditional space. Contrasting white paint draws attention to the trim's details, adding another element of interest.

4. Midcentury Modern in Minnesota. Upholstered chairs bring the blue into this dining room. The pendant chandelier helps to tie in the glossy starburst mirror and deco table lamp.
5. Beachfront views in South Carolina. Sometimes an incredible view is all that's needed to decorate a room. The Atlantic Ocean dictated this room's beach style — from the rattan chairs to the worn wooden table.
6. New traditional in South Carolina. Paneled siding painted a soft taupe combines traditional and contemporary elements in this dining room. While the furniture is stunning, Houzzers saved this photo for all the architectural details, including the ceiling beams, trim and transom windows.

8. Newport Beach neutrals. A dining room doesn't have to be grand to make an impact, as evidenced by this simple space in California. Although the table and chairs don't take up a ton of room, high-impact accents — pendants, curtains and wall art — make the space especially inspiring.

9. Cozy seating in California. Houzzers loved the idea of eating in comfort in 2012, so upholstered dining chairs were particularly popular. These plush pink and white chairs look perfect for postmeal lounging.

| 10. Rustic glam in Denver. Rustic materials combine with metallic accents in this dining space. A matching bench sits next to the table for a little extra seating — something many Houzz users noted in their ideabooks. ajnz833 My favourite #6! I love all elements of this room but will only mention a few, the rug, windows/dors and flowers. I can see myself enjoying a cup of coffee, entertaining or putting a puzzle together on a quiet evening.

alitafish @lexielyn I work as a color consultant for Sherwin-Williams. I may not be able to say what was exactly used by each decorator in the three shots, but 6 and 8 look an awful lot like SW7037 Balanced Beige. 10 looks a little warmer and I would say like the houses I've used Bittersweet Stem (SW7536?) in. They are both very popular though I've sold a lot more of the Bittersweet Stem to people looking for a traditional style. The 7037 goes well with nomadic looks: dark wood, terra cottas, hand woven linen and high patterns.
