Consider yellow — but not a pastel country-kitchen yellow. Try a saturated egg yolk yellow to add sunshine and smiles. It looks amazing with white walls and blonde wood floors.

With Emerald as Pantone's Color of the Year, all shades of green are in the spotlight. A lighter pastel version of the rich hue looks refreshing as a kitchen cabinet color.
by Garrison Hullinger Interior Design Inc.
If you like the idea of mint green in the kitchen but don't want to commit to doing the whole kitchen this color, apply it just to the island and keep the other cabinets white. Many new kitchens are showing a mix of finishes, and an island is a good place to play with color.
by Teri Turan
If you just can't imagine anything except pristine white kitchen cabinets, but you are drawn to a little mint, feature it in a small area, such as a new tile backsplash.

A green closer to olive paired with marble accents will keep your kitchen looking classic for years to come.

Shades of turquoise work with retro-style kitchens for a nostalgic wink — and also look great in modern kitchens.
by Todosomething LLC
Turquoise can be overbearing in large doses, so I advise using it sparingly. This kitchen uses just the right amount on the upper cabinet frames, balanced with warm wood lower cabinets and terra-cotta floor tiles.

I do like turquoise, peacock and robin's egg blue, especially for laundry cabinets — as an offshoot to the kitchen instead of on the prime real estate.

Black as a cabinet color choice is catching on like wildfire in some kitchens.

Are You Ready for a Dark and Sophisticated Kitchen?
by A.S.D. Interiors - Shirry Dolgin, Owner
Navy is this year's black. When black seems too masculine or gloomy, navy will do in a pinch to add neat and preppy charm. It looks especially good paired with white upper cabinets.

Color Guide: How to Use Navy Blue
by Michael Goodsmith Design
Navy also looks fantastic with this year's metal of choice: copper. Whether you use copper as the finish for lighting, plumbing fixtures or hardware, or simply display your collection of copper pots and pans, think navy for at least part of your kitchen.

the_misfit That's funny. I chose copper as the accent metal for my kitchen LAST year. Next year, I am sure I will be behind the times again :).

Faith Towers Media Love the blue cabinets above, they look gorgeous with those countertops. I wish I could be daring enough to paint mine that color. Here's some more blue cabinetry to drool over: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2010/03/kitchen-inspiration.html

leftyplg kechip,

Painting my laminate cabinets was my next project in our house rejuvination. We have since bought a newer home and are renovating so I didn't get to the laminate painting phase. I have done quite a bit of research on painting laminate and what I have gathered is that if you properly prime, just about anything can be painted. I was going to pruchase a primer that was made for plastic, glass etc (don't know the brand) but ended up not needing it. Search online about painting laminate and find a good primer and paint then go for it! Now that I think of it, I did once paint our laminate bathroom vanity top and sealed it well with several coats of urathane and it lasted for years until we finally got a new top. It was our only bathroom and we had 2 teenagers at home.

Reclaimed Lumber Products In our kitchen, we used reclaimed wood for the cabinet panels and doors. The wood was painted with a distressed milk-paint finish. We contrasted the island in a distressed black milk paint.

catswaller It's hard to show the right color of sage green, but I had our knotty pine cabinets painted...turned out fabulous (I hated the pine). The room is NOT this dark, but I took the pics at night and had trouble with lighting.

jamma33 my kitchen cabinets will be pale yellow and the island will be dark blue (almost navy). I have selected a granite with a lot of yellow and many veins of gray (which read blue). I will have dark wood floors, white beadboard ceiling. I am having trouble picking a backsplash. I am thinking of a sort of slate gray stone subway tile effect. Open to suggestions

frenchdecor I saw once in design magazine contemporary kitchen, sweet orange pepper, it stays in my mind as flag for almost 3 years. Want paint in my vacation home boring flat laminate (chest nut) kitchen cabinets in this color, hope it will be as beautiful as in magazine. Those cabinets are incredible durable and in a very good condition for 20 years. I consulted and was recommended to sand them a bit, for better primer adhesion.

redandyellow My Kitchen colors right now are out dated. They are Dark Pink with Hunter Green Decor. I would like to go Red and Yellow for my kitchen and Living Room. Also I am a person that loves color so added touches of greens pinks and blues are and would be an added feature as well, especially in my Living Room. My Couch is Blue, more like a lighter Denim Blue. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Red is my favorite color. I sew and do a lot of crafts so I am able to make things for the Decor part. I Love Country. If you look at Country Magazine. That is my Style. Deb

bibsey I had a white kitchen. Want to remodel using white shaker. I cannot go any further. I can't pick counter or floor. I liked marble counter and wood floor everyone tells me neither are good for a kitchen. I know they are right. Please if someone can help I just can't do it.

jamma33 Bibsey- I have had a wood floor for 27 years. If you recoat it every 2-3 years (depending on traffic) you will have a beautiful floor for as long as you want. They say marble isn't good for a kitchen, but you just need to be careful. There are also beautiful white granites out there

jacksonbeth We actually took advantage of this idea when we redid our kitchen. We were able to find a really great cabinet from Carolina Heartwood Cabinetry - and they were able to offer several different color concepts for the kitchen. A creative color really does add to the look of the entire room. http://carolinaheartwoodcabinetry.com/our-products/premium-paint/
