Gehry's Hat Trick chair, which comes in side and armchair versions, is already popular on Houzz.

Gehry Hat Trick Chair - $1,515.00 [ Link ]
Gehry approaches each building he designs as a sculptural object, and his approach to furniture is no different.
by hive
The chairs are composed of bent laminated maple strips. Apple baskets inspired their construction. Even just the tops of the chair backs are eye catching.
by Sharon Portnoy Design
This table base is also by Gehry; you may find the same base on his Face Off café table.
by Joni Spear Interior Design
The strips of the chairs play off modern elements like exposed rafters and clean, straight lines, but the shape of the chairs throws rooms a curveball. (Pardon my mixing of sports metaphors; my hockey team abandoned Atlanta for Winnipeg, and I'm out of touch with hockey this season.)
by Glenn Robert Lym Architect
The chairs play nicely with iconic midcentury furniture like Eero Saarinan's Tulip Table. I also love this designer's choice of Fucsia pendants hanging overhead.
by Doyle McCullar Fine Interiors
The chairs are right at home in a contemporary eat-in kitchen.

People who live in glass houses should throw a few of these chairs around for looky-loos to admire from outside.

Don't quarantine Hat Trick to the dining room; it also makes a statement as an occasional chair in any other room in the house.

groveraxle Okay, I have to admit I've never sat in one, but this chair looks awfully uncomfortable. I have sat in another modern icon--the Wassily chair--and can attest to its lack of comfort. Sometimes great looking chairs aren't all they're cracked up to be.

scarbowcow Yes, it does look a bit like a torture device to sit in... but why is it called a 'hat trick' chair? I looked up 'hat trick' online and I still can't figure it out (though now I understand why you mentioned hockey). Is there some meaning to choosing that term for this chair?

Becky Harris All of the furniture in the collection has hockey term names - hat trick, slap shot, etc.

kennedytarheel This design reminds me of a modern day throne (scaled down to silhouette basics) for some reason. A bit quirky but very original and interesting in its form. I like that it comes in more than one color. Maybe with a cushion or sheepskin on the seat it would be softer for long term sitting. My bertoia diamond wire chair definitely needs a cushion! But...that never stopped me from having one. Becky, I hope you aren't too disappointed that the Atlanta Falcons aren't going to the Super Bowl this year.

Hi-Lite Manufacturing Co. In hockey, a "hat trick" is when a player scores 3 (or more? I'm not too sure if there are other names) goals in a single match.

It's hard enough for them to score even once in a game! So they celebrate the accomplishment.

Hi-Lite Manufacturing Co. Also! Thank you for your words again Becky!

I had no idea Frank Gehry made furniture. I was staring at the table trying to figure out the connection between it and the chairs (besides the wood). It took a while before I looked underneath!

These guys have a limitless imagination.

aeykelbo The chairs might look uncomfortable, but I bet they aren't... all the pokey bits are angled away from the body and the wood is thin enough that it probably flexes a bit when you settle in. They look almost fragile.

Has anybody actually sat in one of these chairs?

Glenn Robert Lym Architect Like many of Gehry's works, you actually have to be there, go through them and, in this case, sit on them. They are my main office seating and they are fabulously comfortable. The bend as the plywood is flexible, both in the seat and in the back.

shellyk13 These chairs are sooooo COMFORTABLE! They look amazing and are amazing to sit in. We have 6 of them around a round table.

Sharon Portnoy Design they're actually *really* comfortable. They're made of thinly laminated bentwood and are practically bouncy they're so light and flexible.

complicity You forget that they play nicely with antiques. We have 8 armchairs around a 72-inch 18th-century English pedestal table. They look spectacular, are comfortable, and unlike upholstered period chairs aren't readily stained by dropped morsels. AND they're light so you can drag them wherever the conversation goes.

Becky Harris Complicity, I would LOVE to see a picture of your Gehry chairs with your antiques - please share one of you have time! I couldn't find an example to share in this ideabook.

complicity Give me some time and will send. Happens that the carpenter's just installing shutters in the dining room.

Becky Harris Thank you complicity! I look forward to seeing all of it!

nalleshouse I have always loved the look of this chair. Oddly I really like the one painted (?) black and I prefer the ones that are pictured by themselves as contrasted with several grouped around a table. I also want to know: is it comfortable?

papendrick The Hat Trick chair is the only chair of the collection with a solid seat - and is perhaps the most comfortable of all. It is light weight (probably only weighs 15 lbs) and flexible and gives with your movenments. I have some that were made 20 years ago and they are still used daily and in some ways look even better with age and wear. The Face Off table pictured actually is sold with a round glass top that allows you to see below, not the square wooden top pictured.
