Kelley Nancy I wouldn't call any of these things "upgrades"....except maybe the doorknocker. A true upgrade would be more along the lines of, say, using Baldwin brass light switchplates to replace the plastic generic ones that came with the house. Or upgrading the carpeting, to hardwood, the plumbing fixtures, things like that.

Would you consider the $99 rug I bought at Costco to cover the cream colored carpet in the living room that my sons keep getting filthy an upgrade? It looks nice for $99 bucks and I don't want to invest anymore until they can be trusted not to track dirt into the living room.
