Gray. It was touted as a trend at first, but the love for gray has yet to fade. Play with dark charcoal for dramatic dining rooms and use foggy gray for relaxing bedrooms full of natural light.

Red. Go beyond the classic red front door and bring this bold hue inside. Make an impact with an incredible accent wall or keep things simple with a few striped pillows.

Pink. Although it's a favorite choice for little girls' rooms, pink can still feel grown up and sophisticated. This cheerful hue can brighten rooms of many styles.

Orange. An often-forgotten color, orange can instantly warm up a room in even the subtlest accents. From tangerine to coral, a shade of orange can work in your home.

Yellow. Yellow is one of those colors that instantly makes people happy. Accent it with bright blues for a palette that plays off the color wheel, or tone it down by pairing it with gray and neutral textiles.

Green. Bring the outdoors inside with nature's favorite color. Lively, refreshing and eye catching, the right tone of green can work in any home.

Blue. Bright and striking in some spaces, subdued and soothing in others, blue can completely transform a space.

Purple. Purple isn't always the first choice for interior decorating — outside of children's spaces — but when used smartly and sparingly, it can add an elegant element of surprise to modern or traditional spaces.

White. Sometimes sticking to the basics is your best bet. Don't dismiss white as boring — when used right, it can make an incredible statement.

Brown. Although beige tends to get a bad rap, there's a reason this color is so popular: It's hard to get wrong. Use a lighter shade for more soothing spaces and venture into dark chocolate browns to mix things up.

Black. Black doesn't have to be used sparingly. Although it's dark, it can often be used in the same way as a neutral but with a more dramatic flair.

bunco I sure wish Houzz would show us some pictures with stained woodwork....I built a home in the early 90's and wont be able to paint my woodwork white.....I would like to add some color to my walls....Love this sight!

Michelangelo Decorative Painting One little comment: Never leave your ceiling white. White ceiling makes room look unfinished and shorter.... Darker walls should be complemented by darker ceiling ( not matching the walls, but coordinating). Also do not believe when somebody tells you that darker colors make your room look smaller. There are many rules in the Color Theory. Experiment and relay on your taste :)

Melanie Marinucci I love color in rooms. I try to have every room in my house a different color without it looking like a mess. Some are subtle, some not so much.

Faith Towers Media I've been inspired by green lately (maybe because there's so little of it this time of year) and I've noticed that a lot of people pair it with black and white in their homes. There's something about the graphic feel of the black and white against the more natural green hues that make the combo really pop. Here are some great examples: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2013/01/black-white-green.html

Shavonda Gardner I'm an absolute color fanatic! I love bold color choices in homes. I actually just got done painting my living room black and I absolutely love it! I'm excited to get furniture in there so we can enjoy the deeply hued moody space.

cami19 I"d love to see an exploration of the how color affects the room (and its residents) by using the same room and the same furniture and layout and changing nothing but the colors.

justmeotessa What a ground breaking event! Colorful rooms and houses are wonderful, we wake up and go to bed with them having imagination and the inspiration of wanting to do better. It is about time we stop thinking outside the box, and become individuals in our own homes. Blue is my favorite color. I like others, but consider blue as my home color. This is me, but it does not have to be anyone else favorite color. Now, I would like my kitchen cabinets to be a deep glossy red color, blended with others. Modern furniture I do not like, because it is too bland without any character. It is refreshing that each one of us can decorate differently and be individuals instead of following some kind of crowd.

Marta Gayoso Is it ok to use a different color in every room? I have a small bungalow, and since the rooms are small, I'm nervous about painting each room a different color. Will it look too patchworky?

olldbobbi Marta, just about every room in my house is a different color! How boring would it be to have no change at all from room to room?

patscats2 All my rooms are diffferent colors. I painted each room with its' function in mind as I am affected by color.

Do you remember Christopher Lowell and Lynette Jennings? Those two designer's taught me how not to be afraid of color on my walls.

danavalery We are repainting interior of old Victorian with tons of trim- woodwork, dental molding, wainscoting... - some areas have a color I like and seems to be an ivory white by bm. We need to do whole house in same trim and ceiling color and I am struggling to decide. I like a lot of the grays out now but worry they need a brighter white. Any suggestions? The dining room has an old hand painted paper on it with lots of greens and browns and orangy golds- very Asian with birds and trees. We are keeping that.

olldroo Marta - if you are nervous about using different colours for each room, choose 4 colours that co-ordinate and use one of those colours in each room with one, two or all three of the other colours as accents. This allows you to make each room look different while co-ordinating the colours through the house. I like to add white to keep the colours fresh.

mccutcheon1 Marta, my house is small too, but, for me, a variety of colors makes me feel the difference between rooms, instead of feeling trapped in one big room. And the sight of another color through a doorway also gives me a sense of moving through space.
I used an old K-Mart Martha Stewart four-color card and took the kitchen and dining room from it (Westport Tan and Soft Brick). Then I used another card with the tan on it to find a blue for the bathroom. The living room had to be green, so I was on my own.
Knock yourself out!

ansleydcosta Home Decor at proper times makes your home feel fresh and lively. But once should know the right ways to make it beautiful. Small small things can add beauty to your sweet home. A interior designer can prove quite helpful and provide you the right suggestions. Beth Harper As a decorator, I've said that I want my tombstone to read, "No white ceilings, ever!" I think many of these rooms would look better with color on the ceilings so the crowd moulding pops.
