Yellow. Welcome visitors with a cheerful yellow front door. Often identified with happiness, high energy and warmth, a lively yellow can brighten otherwise gloomy exteriors.

Bright red. One of the most moving colors, red is known as a color that brings life, power, passion and strength to its surroundings. Bring its vitality to your home by painting your front door a statement-making red.

Deep red. If bright red feels too audacious for your home, deepen the hue for a more crimson tone. More refined and sophisticated than brighter reds, certain shades of this deep red can work almost as neutrals.

Orange. Orange is one of those colors that can go wrong really quickly. But don't let that stop you — with the right complementing tones, small doses of orange can look quite modern and welcoming.

Green. Play off your surrounding landscape or introduce a new, refreshing color by painting your front door green. Whether olive, mint or lime, there's bound to be a shade of green that can fit into your exterior palette.

Blue. Although it's often seen indoors, more vibrant shades of blue rarely make an appearance on exteriors. Shake things up by pairing a bright blue with a natural or neutral exterior for an unexpected welcome to your home.

Purple. As with orange, using too much purple can veer toward gaudy very quickly. Stick to a small dose and try purple on your home's front door. Whether you like warm or cool tones, purple can — surprisingly — complement almost any exterior palette.

Black. Always classic, glossy black doors make an elegant statement. Use other exterior accents to help tie a black door into the rest of your home's design.

Natalie H. As most doors are, my door is brown, just pretty much wood. I WOULD NEVER think about painting a bright, neon color or anything, but I am SUPER modern so I would probably paint it blue, black, purple or something.

mcd53 Wasn't the 'painting the front door' done just a few months ago?

John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. Personally I love a Black front door myself. Not a colour I know but looks sharp just the same. Something you should consider is having your front door protected from the Sun and rain. Manytimes a South facing front door needs to be painted a lighter colour or white to cut down on the thermal expansion the door goes through.

I've seen black doors literally fall apart once painted from White to Black. There are many composite doors now that are paintable and these would be a better option for the darker colours.

Food for thought before you run out and paint the white door dark red.

jaxsue One of the things I loved about homes in Ireland was the vibrant colors of the front doors. I saw every color imaginable, and you could walk down a village street and not see a color repeated. Of course, the homes were generally neutral colors, so the brightly painted doors worked.

mgranskou Of the thousands of decisions made building my house, painting the front door tumeric yellow was one of the best. Makes me smile every time I see it. Highly recommend it - it'll pop.

mmunro57 My house is a deep red with white & green trim and I would love to paint my white front door another colour but I haven't seen any examples of what colour to use. Any suggestions would be great!

Pinky Schauer Our house is a pale grey blue color and right now our front door is a darker blue color. Like it but time to change it. What color would your suggest?

Lori Rose Hey Karenht, I'd try turquoise, aqua or lime green on the front door of your soft pink/coral house. I live in a single story home with grey vinyl shingles with white trim. I just changed my door from red to turquoise and it is absolutely stunning. In the grand scheme of things, paint is inexpensive - experiment!

wvdustbunny I have a white brick house, with black shutters, black roof, and black gutters. My front door is white. I desperately want to paint my front door a color that stands out. I have looked at crimson, bright red, teal, kelly green. My husband nixes every color I pick. I am just going to do it when he isn't home and surprise him. So, any suggestions on which way I should go.

moxximom to cprmktg: I would suggest a medium blue or even burgundy or plum. Red is very nice, always, but tends to look ordinary these days! Have you considered painting the brick or window trim?

Diana Sherfey We recently painted our front door yellow. Now we're trying to figure out what to do with the screen door. Currently it's green (matching the shutters on the house). I'm not crazy about the green and am considering painting the screen door yellow or white. we could also just remove the screen door, but then we'd lose the opportunity to leave the front door open. I'd appreciate feedback.

jerryalan Paint the screen door the same as the house door. It would blend right in and you'd have the look you want.
