Café Collection Past Bowl - $14.95 [ Link ]
As a lover of pasta, I wanted a dish that was made for the many pasta dishes I try. The actual bowl is a traditional size, but the grand size of the overall plate creates a wonderful presentation.

Blanc Footed Coffee Cup, 16-Ounce - $6.95 [ Link ]
This coffee cup isn't the size of a gallon, yet it still will allow you to be sipping for quite some time. Or if you're like me, it makes the best teacup in the morning or evening that can hold just enough to wake me up or calm me down without shocking me to the bone.

White Ceramic-Crate Egg Holder - $12.95 [ Link ]
My daily breakfast includes one farm-fresh egg. All of the brilliant different shades of brown and white that arrive from my chicken caretaker are not to be hidden, so a ceramic egg crate is the perfect item to place in the refrigerator. It's a simple and elegant way to spruce up the inside of the refrigerator.

White Porcelain Espresso Cup and Saucer - $4.95 [ Link ]
The apartment I stayed in while traveling around London this past summer was equipped with a wonderful espresso machine and lovely white espresso cups and saucers. Hopefully someday I will have the machine, but for now, I have a pair of cups waiting to be used.

Viv 20-Ounce Big Red Wine Glass - $4.95 [ Link ]
This big red wine glass was exactly what I was looking for as an every-wine glass to have on the shelf. It is nearly identical to the wineglasses I have seen at tastings. It is not too delicate or too large, and it looks stunning on the shelf.

Deep Oval Ramekin - $2.95 [ Link ]
I adore having small white dishes available for carrying around a handful of grapes or nuts as I go about my business in the house. They keep things neat and tidy, and they aren't so large that I overeat.

'Dignity and Impudence' Print - $19.99 [ Link ]
When I first saw the original painting in London at the Tate Britain, I was immediately smitten. The story behind this painting spoke to me, as I'm the mama of two pups. While I will let you learn the painting's story on your own, my story ends with me purchasing the print, framing it in white and hanging it in the kitchen above the dishes. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect item of wall decor.

Hand-Woven Basket Natural Jute Rug - $98.09 [ Link ]
With a large open floor, a room often needs to be warmed up, and a rug is my favorite way to do so. You don't need anything too expensive or something that competes with the rest of the decor. This natural jute rug is perfect.

Cordless Roman Shade, White - $110.00 [ Link ]
Blinds.com customizes shades to fit your windows. They also allow you to choose from outside or inside mounts, so when I was picking out my white Roman shades, this was where I went. They have a kind of uniformity that brings the entire space together.

Utensil Holder - $29.95 [ Link ]
The ability to grab the utensil you need without pulling out five other objects is a huge change in my kitchen. While I purchased my two white porcelain canisters from a local kitchen store, these look nearly identical. They made a wonderful addition.

wantsideas When I started buying stuff for my first apartment I had an affinity for colored plates. My Mother shook her head and said “go with white. It’s classic and will never go out of style.” I went through a color spectrum that included a dirty vintage grey that any food on it looked unappetizing. (well that was when I was skinny now that I think about it?) She was right though. Food is much more appealing on white dishes with the accessories providing the color. Love the square small plate. While the egg holder appeals to me for some reason, I think I rebel against having the inside of my refrigerator styled. Clear glass is classic also.

olldbobbi I have the Heritage Hill glass jar and I would buy a dozen of them - IF they sealed, they don't. So whatever you put in them (I put cookies inside) goes stale almost immediately. Bummer!

collins design I'm surprised you didn't include Ikea's 365+ white dinnerware. Terrific design, lots of serving dishes, and the base price for a set to serve 6 is $35!

Liza Anne When I bought my recent home about 13 years ago, I wanted to start fresh in the kitchen with everything! I bought the most gorgeous (yet basic and not a bit fussy) white porcelain dishes from Pottery Barn, called Textured. Here I am, so many years later, and I still adore my dishes!! Sadly, they are discontinued, and the price on sites like Replacements is outrageous compared to what I paid for them. Fortunately I've not lost a piece, still not a single chip, but I would have loved to have pieces of the set that are no longer available.

So --- when you find something you love, BUY IT, and buy all the pieces!!!! You may never find them again!!

Lovely collection btw - would love to see pics of your open cabinets with all the pretties inside!

olldbobbi Do place setting still come with a coffee cup? I could do without that, I have my own mugs. Good way to save us some $$$.

Laurel Crisafulli I got all of my dishes at world market. After quickly destroying almost every plate in a CB2 stoneware set, I bought 12ea of dinner plates, salad plates, cereal, and soup bowls. Each piece was only a few bucks and so far after 5 years, I've only broken 2 bowls. And I do a lot of drunken cooking/eating.

morehouselake I have my Grandmothers' wedding dishes from 1906. They're by Syracuse called Shelledge and, remarkably, I still have almost a full 12 place settings (some cups have bit the dust). All my granddaughters love them so they'll have to duke it out after I kick the bucket. White looks marvelous with anything and I love changing tablecloths and placemats to suit my mood and the season.

nooneycat Replacements, LDT. in Greensboro North Carolina can replace them for you enough to share with all the grand daughters... check it out.

Carolyn Zone9alady I agree! All of my dishes, platters, bowls, casseroles, coffee cups, ramekins etc, are plain white porcelain, Corel/melamine or stoneware. All of my glasses are clear. Works any time of the year and can always be dressed up or down with color as the occasion rises.

sclawson Love my white dishes. So easy to mix and match shapes and come up with an architectural collection for the table. The food looks better on it too.

grazfrau 26 years ago I got my Pfaltzgraf white Heritage dishes. I've been using them every day since. Sounds boring, but I can change so many other things. Plus we've moved 12 times and they've looked great in every kitchen.

decherieamour Loved your article Shannon - we are soulmates. I replaced our everyday china (stored it) with all white dishes after a trip to Paris where everything was served on white. The food was the star. I also appreciate how nicely I can integrate the white with other patterns for fun. Also love Ina Garten - have all her cookbooks. I'm originally from the east coast and her food & writing are very nostalgic. Also have the glass canister. I kept saying "oh my gosh, oh my gosh" as I scrolled through your photos! My sister and I are dish freaks. My husband just reminds me that I have to have a place to store whatever I buy.
