The great room is one of the couple's favorite spots, but its high vaulted ceilings made creating a cozy feeling challenging. The couple went with a sea-inspired wall paint and added custom built-in shelving around the fireplace. The new built-ins replaced a large black TV unit.
Tammy's sister and brother-in-law made the rustic coffee table with wood and nails from their family's 100-year-old barn.

The beach rock tile, seashell framed art, wainscoting and curated accessories play up the couple's beach-cottage style. Tammy put in repeating star accessories throughout the home.

The existing kitchen had great bones, but the Greenlands wanted more counter space and worked with Shiann Hynes of Kitchen Concepts to renovate. They painted the existing cabinets and added an island, a farmhouse sink and a dedicated coffee station. "The biggest change in renovating was the addition of the huge island. It is a homework station, prep and meal area, and great for entertaining," says Tammy. The door on the right leads to the backyard.

The new extended island offers a lot of counter space for food prep and casual dining.

Instead of using standard glass on this cabinet, they opted for chicken wire to play off of their dish collection.

The formal dining room has an elegant rustic style, with an antique buffet from St. John's and fabric-covered slippered chairs. The red and black dining chairs offer a dramatic contrast against the white wainscoting.

Jonathan plays the household's piano — all three sons are currently learning to play, too.

A distressed armoire near the entry holds winter coats. The wicker baskets on top store the family's hats and gloves.

In 5-year-old Aidan's room, the star motif continues with a red, white and blue color palette. Clean white walls, wainscoting and a chair rail contrast with a bed painted the same red as the dining room chairs.

Stars are present in the charming master bedroom, too. The couple plans to tackle the other upstairs bedrooms next on their renovation to-do list.

A 1,500-square-foot basement takes up the downstairs, including a home theater with a custom built-in surrounding a large TV. Speakers hide behind mesh-front doors. Theater-inspired sconces line both sides of the room, and there's a snack area with a microwave and refrigerator. "We really enjoy watching movies as a family; this is definitely the kids' and their friends' favorite area of the house," says Tammy.

For the grown-ups, this arched wood door leads to a wine cellar built by the previous homeowner.

The curved ceiling detail is a nice touch in this compact space. Recessed task lighting illuminates the multiple wine racks.

Curious about the vent over the gas range in the kitchen; brand, how effective/efficient it is, cfm, etc.
Feel free to chip in, Beckie, because there are lots of positive comments and good questions arising from your feature!
I do prefer authors who return to their articles and take an active interest in what their readers have to say, for example Samantha Schoech, Bud Deitrich, John Whipple, Garrison Hullinger, Laura Gaskill or Becky Harris.
@bubblyjock-- Unless the family keeps their cooking on the simple side with an emphasis on braising and steaming they may come to regret their kitchen ventilation decision. I'm in the midst of a full house renovation and range hood ventilation is a major part of the kitchen and HVAC design. The pictured system is likely to be inadequate-- too small, too far away from the source, no way to capture the rising column of smoke and grease particles, etc. I'd actually even go as far as to say almost useless, especially as it appears the range is a high-powered pro-style one.
