The cheerful open living room is accessed through an enclosed sunporch. "It was so much fun to see our furniture take on a new life in our new home," says Engle. "It felt like we started with a clean slate. We had spent so much time picturing ourselves in this home that it took no time at all to feel comfortable."

Shelves: CB2; coffee table: Tyne, Room and Board; pillow: Sweater Knit Pillow Cover, West Elm; sofa: Reese, Slifer Designs, Cherry Creek, CO; rug: Frontier by Surya, Slifer Designs

When it's warm outside, Engle and Scott enjoy their enclosed sunporch. Scott scored this vintage bench from an antiques shop and repainted it orange.

The open living space expands into a light and leisurely casual dining area. The hardwood floors and doors are original to the house. "Our style is a little modern and retro. We have fun filling our home with pieces that we find at local antique shops, and mix them in with our existing pieces," says Engle.

The compact kitchen made a strong first impression on the couple. A wall opposite the sink adorned with colorful art and accessories reflects Engle's love for baking. A rolling cart adds flexible prep space. The kitchen was updated in the 1950s with Geneva aluminum cabinets, a Roper cooktop and a Thor wall-mounted oven, all in perfect working condition.

"We fell in love with our midcentury modern kitchen and love it more each day," Engle says. "We also love all the fun little built-in cabinets. They give each space character and functionality."

This view from the kitchen looks out to the dining room and sunporch. The framed cupcake print was a gift from the couple's realtor.

The guest bedroom features a vintage print of Vail Village from Yankee Trader and a framed reprint of Andy Warhol's 10 Marilyns, 1967.

The guest bedroom is adjacent to the living area on the first floor, allowing for a private master suite in the basement. The couple thoroughly enjoys the new division between common and personal space — a luxury they didn't have in their loft.

The cozy den looks into an expansive side yard and backyard, complete with a koi pond. The couple admits to camping out in the den for a few days after unpacking. "It's the perfect spot to have a movie marathon," says Engle.

The basement master suite is a staircase away from the den. A gray chevron accent wall and a painted blue stag's head pack the room with personality. "We had to find the right layout for the downstairs master. It was such a large space, and we were a little overwhelmed," Engle says. "I am sure that this space will always be a work in progress, but for now we have found a layout that works."

The master bathroom was recently renovated by the previous homeowners. The couple loves their first his-and-her sinks.

There's a laundry room in the basement, too. A chalkboard door highlights exciting plans for 2013.

Collin Scott, Caylin Engle and Gigi hang out in their backyard. "We are so excited for spring and summer," says Engle. "Collin has plans to build a pergola, and I want to try my hand at gardening."

olldbobbi I love that orange bench (glider?)!!! And the kitchen is cool, is it very functional? What a shame we were so ready to discard all the great vintage pieces.

jaxsue I love this home! As someone already said, it's nice to see a home that the average person can aspire to. Expensive homes allow us to dream, but really, how many of us will ever own one? This house has warmth, charm, and best of all, people filling it with love. What's not to like?

patricia beharry This is one of my favourites. There is someone who I think goes negative just to get a rise out of people. I fell for it a few times; but I am now on to it and will no longer take the bait.

olldbobbi Patricia, I believe there are many of those "someone's".

Norma Sassone I feel like I could move right in! Thanks for the splashes of color that make the rooms so inviting and real. I don't think I can look at one more house that seems like the "Gray" town in the novel "The Giver" where only one person was allowed to see colors! If that's "professional", I'll take your place, kids :-) I agree, I'd like to see more of your cute kitchen, too.

Eco-Strip Hope they used a leadsafe method to remove the old paint from this old building, likely pre-1978 when lead paint was outlawed. To properly prep multi-layered paint on wood surfaced, you need to strip it all off without making lots of toxic lead dust or fumes. Low heat infrared Speedheater does that. eco-strip.com

Rodella Douglas To The Happy Homeowners - What are the paint colors in your livingroom/diningroom/sunroom?

To Eco-Strip Thank you for this tip - I have an old house that needs window sills stripped and repainted.

jbsilver What I really like about this house is it don't have a lot of WASTED empty space. This home looks cozy it hugs you and makes you want to go home. A real home to me also has an attic, basement, garage, front lawn, and a back yard big or small. Anything else is an apartment. Call it what you want. Caylin should look into plants and vegetation native to the area where they live. Makes gardening less expensive and easy. I do hope her garden is successful.

bluelizard88 Cute house guys! My husband & I live in a 1925 bungalow and we also fell in love with the charm!! Newer houses & fancy renovations don't always compare :)
jbsilver There is no comparison. My house was built in 1896. I'm currently upgrading it for modern appliances. My aim is to not destroy its original look. My mother use to call new houses cracker boxes with divider walls.

typingn Our first house was a bungalow; and when we moved, if I could have found a bungalow, I would have moved into another one. Each bungalow has its own unique layout, built ins, character. They are efficient and comfortable. Also, most bungalows are good for seniors with their one-floor development. Our new in-law addition has a bungalow feel.

Christina Comer I was a little surprised that the couple was so young. The pieces don't look like someone their age......... I am impressed by the tidyness and how they have made it look so colorful and the furniture fits the spaces.... Thank you for sharing...

Noorlena I appreciate the fact that everything was chosen only because they really liked it! Like there are pieces of Ikea furniture along with Eames.
