Beau Monde Glass, Blossom, Aquamarine [ Link ]
Ann Sacks is basically the Louis Vuitton of tile (though some of it is actually not that expensive). This collection is amazing. It would be like a piece of art on your kitchen wall. Good lighting would be a must!
by ANN SACKS
Carrara Venato Marble 1x3 Stacked Mosaic Tile - $11.15 [ Link ]
The variation in this stone is subtle and gorgeous. The aligned grout joints have a much more modern feel than an ashlar pattern.
by Amazon
Ivory Travertine Tumbled Herringbone Mosaic Tile - $4.99 [ Link ]
I like this tumbled stone product. The stones have a very traditional look, but the herringbone pattern gives it a little more design value.
by Amazon
Sentousai Tile, Pewter [ Link ]
This product is great for adding texture, something that I think is often overlooked as a design element. The scale allows it to work in super-small spaces.
by Stone Source
White Carrara Hexagon Marble Honed Mosaic Tiles - $10.30 [ Link ]
Carrara is classy and timeless. The hexagon shape gives this a much more modern/edgy look.
by Amazon
PulsarCrono Tile, Pulsar 1 Bianco [ Link ]
Modern tiles in white can go in more transitional spaces — at least I think so. This reminds me of a cable-knit throw.
by Stone Source
Beau Monde Glass, Grace 2, Peridot [ Link ]
Again, Ann Sacks, you amaze me. The products are true pieces of art. Can you imagine an all-white kitchen with good under-cabinet lighting illuminating this gorgeousness?
by ANN SACKS
Gold Yellow Tumbled Mesh-Mounted Herringbone Pattern Travertine Mosaic Tiles - $19.99 [ Link ]
I really like the green and blue hues of this tumbled stone. The herringbone also adds a nice design element.
by Mosaic Tile Direct
Carrara White Italian Marble Herringbone Honed Mosaic Tile - $9.99 [ Link ]
This Carrara herringbone could easily work in a traditional or modern space.
by Amazon
Beau Monde Stone, Rococo Loco [ Link ]
This pattern has a larger repeat, and it reminds me of a quilt. You can send in a layout of your project with dimensions, and the company tells you the best way to incorporate the pattern. One day ...

Beau Monde Glass, Polly, Absolute White and Pearl [ Link ]
This is another wonderful pattern from Ann Sacks.

Penny Round Light Green Porcelain Mesh-Mounted Mosaic Tile - $6.95 [ Link ]
Penny rounds are adorable, and this mint green would be so sweet in an all-white kitchen with coral accents.

Note: This is super hard to install well. Make a contractor show you that he/she has worked with penny rounds, or you might see the outlines of every sheet once they're installed — not good.
by Home Depot
Merola Tile Metro Hex Glossy Black Porcelain Mosaic Floor and Wall Tile - $9.95 [ Link ]
I recently had a penny round project go bad (hence the note above). I decided to not go for round two and switched to a hex tile of the same scale, which was easier to align. I used this polished black on a backsplash with gray grout. It looked gorgeous.
by Home Depot
Metro Hex Glossy White Porcelain Mosaic Floor and Wall Tile - $5.95 [ Link ]
This matte white works fairly well in more traditional/transitional settings (as opposed to the polished black version). White grout gives a very seamless/monolithic look, while dark grout makes every little shape pop.
by Home Depot
SomerTile Posh Penny Round Ash Porcelain Mosaic Tile - $67.99 [ Link ]
I like the color variation in this penny round tile.
by Overstock
Stream Border Tile, Pewter, Rounded [ Link ]
Stone Source is one of my favorite retailers. This gray rectangular tile would look great under white lacquered cabinets.
by Stone Source
SomerTile Mini White Porcelain Mosaic Tile (Pack of 10) - $119.99 [ Link ]
This sweet little Moroccan pattern is quite a deal.
by Overstock
Sadiola Gold Fleck Glass Mosaic Tile [ Link ]
I recently came across an image where someone used a standard 1-inch mosaic like this on a backsplash and turned it 45 degrees. It looked amazing. I am dying to try it myself.
by Original Style
Somertile Anvil Steel Brick Metal Over Ceramic Mosaic Tiles - $179.99 [ Link ]
This looks like a less expensive version of the Stone Source mosaic I included above.
by Overstock
Somertile Reflections Basketweave Classic Glass/Stone Mosaic Tiles - $124.99 [ Link ]
I like the bold graphic pattern of this tile. And the price is fantastic!

Paul D'Amico - Period Design I looked at Ann Sacks website and I really like the Beau Monde range. The one shown here (1st Photo) is exquisite. There is a chrysanthemum in marcasite, pearl and blue spine that conquered me as well. Thank you Stephanie for showing me.

Charmean Neithart Interiors, LLC. The Beau Monde is beautiful. A little goes a long way. Here it is installed in a master bath.

mafaulkner I would never want textured tile--like the sentousai or the stream border tile--in my kitchen. I can't imagine how hard it would be to clean the inevitable grease and dust of those surfaces!

ptmatthews I have the black and white basketweave as my backsplash in my kitchen, with white cabinets and black granite countertops. It's bold, but looks great.
tamieb I used a Sonoma decorative tile for my entire backsplash and love it. the picture is pre grout, but they say if it looks good before grout it will be fantastic after.

corinhadesign Thank you Stephanie for this wonderful post. I tend to stay with designs that have been a success but you have inspired me.

custom-tiles.com mafaulkner - I would agree, generally, but there are tumbled marble tiles with a very slight texture and worn edges for giving an antique aesthetic, but are easy to clean. Another way to achieve depth or texture is to use printed tile which has a protective glaze for cleanser resistance. You can see how smooth ceramic tile looks so interesting when art is custom printed on the tile. Repeating patterns can also be printed in nearly limitless colors.

Casart Coverings Thank you Stephanie, this is a great visual pattern reference. I've always like the Ann Sacks tile you show in the first picture and the Sadiola Gold Fleck Glass Mosaic Tile reminded me our our Faux Glass Mosaic Tile. It also comes on a clear repositionable backing to allow the base paint color to show through as the grout color.

Juniper River Home Design At Juniper River Home Design (www.juniperriver.com) we have another twist to the backsplash tile. Take that commercial tile, in this case stainless steel subway, and we sell fused glass art tiles. In this case we simple pop out some of the tiles from the mosaic and pop back in the custom glass tiles. Choose any colors that work. Hey, while you are at is you can have knobs or pulls to match!

hly2002 Would love to see how the Ann sacks Polly, absolute white and pearl tile is used ...

jsmbythebay Beautiful tile. However, in my experience, nothing by Ann Sacks falls into the realm of affordable, I am consistently dissapointed after pricing her (excellent) work and having to pass due to budget....

Kitchen Liberty Tile design is 1 of my joys. It's an opportunity to express style, mood, color & texture. I can often improve the feeling of constriction in a bathroom or smallish kitchen with the right tile. Ann Sacks Peridot is stunning. These details in small square footages can be incorporated into a project for a stunning result on a budget: back of the shampoo niche, kitchen oils niche, inside a glass front cabinet, accent stripes in the shower, accent blocks in a shower etc. Anybody can have gorgeous when the money is free-flowing, but great designers can find a way to bring beauty into mid-range remodels with CREATIViTY!

hly2002 Points well taken about cost and cleaning - am thinking I will have a few rows of fairly plain, solid colored tile in same size and have only 1 row topping it with this tile (not going all the way up - will have gold colored walls)...

logicbutton Oh great, now I'm never going to be satisfied with anything in my kitchen that isn't Ann Sacks Escargogo.

Seriously, look at this. http://www.annsacks.com/common/images/jpg128/BeauMondeGlass_Mosaic_Escargogo_Multi.jpg

jukesgrrl I am updating a house on a budget with resale in mind. I chose taupe-colored glass rectangles that I stacked, rather than placing them in a subway pattern. I mail-ordered them from http://www.susanjablon.com/ and I was very pleased with the product, price, and service. The new backsplash provides a bit of shine to the maple cabinets; adds a clean, contemporary look, and was easy for me to install, following Ms. Jablon's directions.

maddecorator That Beau Monde Glass Blossom is the most beautiful tile I've ever seen. Glad I'm not the only one who can't stand subway tile.
Grace Reed Logic, you're absolutely right. It's to die for!

gt4569a I don't understand how anyone could stand having subway tile in their home. Unless they've never been in a subway...?

waterbabies Ann Sacks = drool!!
vvnk I drooled over Ann Sacks tiles too... until I priced them out. Then I thought my hearing was off. $265/sqft? For glass? It's art, but.............................................................how is that even in the realm of reasonable?!

charzen We used a piece of copper sheet from ColorCopper and it works beautifully behind our range cooker. They come in a variety of designs and two thicknesses and it was very easy to work with.

Karen Sironi Love the Ann Sacks, however not many have it in their budget. So maybe splurge on the focal point then surround with unique subway tiles

Brenda I just love the green from Ann Sacks. A little steep for me $75 a sq. ft. I couldn't ever afford that
3 months ago ·
Barbara Stock A designer tip: use small amounts of the pricey tile as a backsplash over a range or niche in a shower, surrounded by more budget friendly tiles.

Stephanie Duerden Love all the selections! Tile fanatic here! Here are a few more awesome options. Oceanside Glasstile and Mandala Tile.

Paul D'Amico - Period Design That is the right idea Barbara. In the photo The Heimixen Art Nouveau tiles from 1910 at £12/tile or $19 have been laid with white metro tiles in sale at only £16/m2 or $2.50 /1 sq ft

Allison For another alternative to Ann Sacks' Beau Monde: Blossom pattern, check out Artistic Tile's Jazz Glass: Estrella or Foliage. It's all beautiful stuff!

marlena1948 Vacation rental. Accent tile Overstock. Except for plumbing fixtures, the rest is from Lowes.

srgerova What is with all the tiles? Doesn't anyone besides me hate to clean grout? I have wipe off tin sheets from Lowes that are super easy to install, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. They look like hammered copper so they are also gorgeous.
nancysto are these the ones that are like $20.00 ea and they are like 18x18 size? i think they would be too expensive
3 months ago ·
srgerova We did our entire kitchen backsplash for about $200 and 2 hours. I didn't think it was so bad and it certainly was less expensive than some of these tiles they show. I love the look and I love being able to clean it with a swipe of a damp paper towel.
mafaulkner I definitely don't want to be cleaning grout in my kitchen; I'm planning a kitchen remodel and want everything to be as low-maintenance as possible. I've seen those sheets at Lowe's and think they're beautiful.

custom-tiles.com I would agree that stained grout is a chore to clean, so I am in the 'ounce of prevention' camp. Always seal a new installation - especially in the kitchen and bath where moisture, food stains, etc. would be a concern. And then, especially in the bath/shower area, keep any potential mold or mildew easy to clean up by resealing the grout in six months. Some installers recommend resealing every six months to a year for long term easy-cleanability and stain resistance. We recommend a couple of particular sealers here, http://custom-tiles.com/tile-installation (see note for tumbled marble), but there are several good ones on the market. Good looking tile has a high perceived value and a little extra care is worth it.

Ureno Interiors I could look at Ann sacks tiles all day(all tile really).
gofish22 The backsplash tile I am about to rip out is a glossy white-on-white embossed pattern (with white tile countertops and badly painted white cabinets. Yuck). But I can say that in over ten years of use the cleaning required has been minimal, I get very little 'grease build-up.' Mostly cake batter splatters and things like that. The backsplash tile and grout still looks like new, while the countertop grout looks terrible. In my new kitchen, the backsplash is the only place there will be grout. The small amount of cleaning will be worth it, and I will try to choose a grout that disappears in the pattern. Right now I am loving Artistic Tile's Jazz Linear series.. I also love split-face travertine mosaics, and would not hesitate to put them on my backsplash. Sealed, of course. I especially like the ones that are close-packed and need no grout.

jacksonbeth Tile is an amazing product which we have been using when building new homes for the past 15 years. One of the newest things is what Web Don just released to the market called Kitchen Pallet. This is a remarkable product that allows you to change the look of your tile backsplash per season, year or event -- anything. The design possibilities are endless. Installation is a snap - and only takes a few minutes with standard hand tools. Perfect for use in new construction and in existing homes. As a builder, I highly recommend Web Don's new product lines!!
