I have custom-made white slipcovers on my sofas. They are great because I can throw them in the washing machine after being lounged on by teenagers and the family dog.

I had someone locally fabricate these oatmeal linen slipcovers. I wash them in the washing machine, take them out slightly damp and smooth them out by hand on the cushions — and they are like new!

Christine I have been dreaming about a bright white canvas slipcover but am not yet brave enough to go for it. Give me strength Houzzers!

groveraxle Knesting doesn't seem to have any fabric in stock. Try Bemz for Ikea slipcovers.

raganele1 Go for it Christine-we have 2 boys and a large dog, our family room white sofa slip covers (Ballard Design's quilted fabric) wash beautifully with a little bleach. Canvas may be a little more heavy and more difficult to wash.

gwarring We have quite a bit of wild life in house - large hairy dog and multiple cats - and I have used white denim slipcovers for many years. I use OxiClean and hot water to wash them. Bleach can damage fabrics and was especially hard on the slipcover seams. The downside of denim is that cats may like to claw it. I'm switching to ultrasuede (or maybe Crypton fabric if I can find a good price on it) for the living room sofas soon, and hoping that will be less attractive to them.

Casart Coverings We think it's easy to "slipcover" your walls with repositionable, removable and reusable wallcovering. And when you purchase pillows, be sure they have zippered covers so you can easily "slipcover" them as well.

Cheryl Runyon I already have slip covered sofas, but I want some new slip covers. I cannot find anyone locally that will make some...I've called decorators, seamstresses, and asked friends that sew if they would be interested in doing it. I've even gone back to the store where i bought the sofas and the manufacturerer of the sofas as well...no luck there either. Anyone have any ideas??

anne dee @cherylrunyonn the first name that came to mind was Telio Fabrics located in Toronto/Montreal in Canada Maybe other locations that I am not aware. But consider this was years ago. Their work is A1.

gailburris Cheryl.....also check out needlesandshears.com I am ready to order a slipcover for my 3 cushion sofa from them . I really researched high and low before i found their site.

Cheryl Runyon @lowtide Thank you but I live in Richland, Washington. @classic.casual.home. Also thank you...I contacted them to...no help. I remember the days when you could find people who did slipcovers! Grrrrrrrr. I guess it is all a part of "planned obsolescence". The sofas themselves are in great shape...I just need (and want) new slipcovers.

Cheryl Runyon @gailburris...thank you! Just went to their site and it looks very promising. :0)

busylizzy Thanks for the timely inspiration. I started making slipcovers when we had messy babies & pets (my oldest is now 50) & couldn't afford new furniture. I have also re-upholstered a few pieces and slipcovers are definitely more work, but if you take it slowly step by step, they are wonderful for just throwing in the washer as needed and changing up when you move/redecorate. Right now I have a couch and 2 armchairs + barstools that I have good intentions for....have had the fabric (faux suede) aging for almost 4 years while my cats shred the upholstery. Maybe this article and the pictures will inspire me to get at it!

lowtide Cheryl, if you have an existing slipcover that fits I can remake it using the pattern you have. I will have to take it apart but you'll get a new one back. Let me know if that helps. Good luck. linda@curtainscomplete.com

BOHEMIA Good suggestion on the "reuse" of existing cover... However My clients come to me for dressmaker fit and quality - something not available in the ready made market. I'll travel to the residence and cut a new muslin pattern, this will serve as a template for as long as the client owns the piece of furniture.

Lucy p Hi Ladies, I have a brown leather sectional but I'd like to try the off white slipcover to make my living room brighter. Any suggestions?
BOHEMIA Caution - slipcovers on Leather are not easy to keep "in place" they slip & slide around...example, if you arrange decorative pillows they slide down and lay on the seat like bed pillows. If the Leather back cushions are attached to your sofa? Then the slip has to be made as one piece.
Katie - BOHEMIA - San Rafael, CA. bohemiainteriors@sbcglobal.net

Lucy p Yes, the cushions are attached. So the slipcover may not be a good idea in my case. I may need haul the sectional out and get a new piece for my living area.

Lucy p Really like this clean and spotless feeling of this room.

BOHEMIA Call the truckers, better yet list on Craigslist...get some one to pay you to haul it away!

janet4784 gwarring, sorry to disappoint, but ultrasuede is just as enticing to cats. And just as susceptible to scratch marks. I was hoping tough denim would be the final answer, but you've ruined that hope for me...maybe we're just doomed to claw marks...let's think of them as love marks. :)

eviev2010 I bought painters drop cloths for slipcovering (then chickened out)! Anybody with this idea that has a good experience they would confess?
Jane Kilpatrick Schott I use them all the time...drapes, etc. But you have to pre wash them so they don't shrink after you have made the slipcovers. Go with cotton duck pre shrunk. They will last forever.

BOHEMIA Jane -you are so cool - I completely relate.

Jane Kilpatrick Schott thanks Kathryn...you and I seem to share the same passion. It's great isn't it?
