Crisp pleats, crisp folds and crisp lines. Everything is planes and lines.
by PLATEMARK DESIGN
Black and charcoal dominate this elegant modern bedroom. When you go this dramatic, very little embellishment is called for.
Bedroom
Masculine doesn't have to mean dark. A combination of whites and tans keeps it bright but without any unnecessary frills.
by Nicole Hollis
Few things say manly better than man's best friend.
Playing Sublimely
This bedroom is plush and snug but in classically masculine patterns and textures: plaid, flannel and formal pleats.
by Tobi Fairley Interior Design
An eclectic take on the masculine room. The grays and muted blue make it seem serious and even a bit somber, but it's not dark. In fact, it's filled with light.

Doesn't the sculpture above the bed look like swords and a shield? The rest is pretty manly too, but that piece is practically thumping its chest.
by Susan Brook Interiors
Another thing masculine rooms have in common is an utter lack of clutter. In fact, an utter lack of stuff. Color and shape stand out when they are not competing with much else.
by Kristina Wolf Design
I love this take on cozy masculinity. In fact, I love everything about this elegant, light-filled room, including its strong bones and sturdy simplicity.

For the surfer dude with good design sense.

Susan Brook Interiors Thank you Samantha for featuring one of my Master Bedrooms, it was so much fun to design and the client loves it.

tetoette I understand what you are trying to say with 'masculinity', however it's a bit of a bummer that sober lines and earth colors should be a sort of guy monopoly (and actually about half of these were designed by women). :)

Loooved these styles though, thank you!

aeykelbo That second black on gray on black bedroom screams serial killer to me... Is that a roll of plastic wrap in the bottom left?

fastermaster It's refreshing to see rooms designed for men Samantha. Thank you!

I actually agree with every word you said and understand completely how 'dangerous' it seems to be designing according to gender, so thanks for taking a stab at it. The variety of design directions you've shown are an excellent start and would love to see more ideas in the near future. Keep up the good work!

riconsd Susan we want to know if the bed you used rocks?

btw I have never met a surfer that had a bedroom that sano in my life, but I love all the rooms you chose.

Susan Brook Interiors The bed is held at the top by side tables that slip under the head of the base but if you remove these then yes it rocks!

The elliptical sculpture was designed by me, the client had 2 old spears that i then mounted on copper, bronze and the exotic wood. It sits off the wall and is lit from behind, it took 4 men to carry it in and mount it in the concrete wall. As yet i haven't seen an obituary for my client so it's still hanging steady!

Thank you for your compliment, regards, Susan

jukesgrrl I must have been a man in a very recent life because I like this type of bedroom so much more than a girly one. My current bedroom resembles a library that just happens to have a bed in it.

CAROLE MEYER I love the tailored look of these rooms.

Meena I like the spear bedroom best. Very interesting. My husband doesnt care about design, so long as the bed is comfortable and the room neat. As a result, my bedroom is feminine and whatever I do cant make it masculine.I tried dark colours - black to be specific. Then it became glamourous and feminine.:) Some good ideas here.

evaf do we need to put a gender label onto those design choices? It is because color if missing, or frills? Let's just get away from the pinks and the blues, please
