Designing a Home...Mary Engelbreit Style, Your Cure for a Dreary Day
Colorful, Charming, Unique, and Playful…these are all adjectives one could easily use to describe a home decorated in what I like to call…Mary Englebreit style. When you look up whimsy in the dictionary…it says, “See Mary Engelbreit.” No, seriously…it does. ;) Ok, maybe not…but it should!
The rooms in a home decorated in Mary’s style are happy rooms…rooms that could turn the world’s biggest pessimist into a Pollyanna. It would be virtually impossible to spend 10 minutes in a home decorated in ME style and not leave with a sunnier disposition.
Her rooms envelop you in happiness. They tickle you and make you laugh until you’re gasping for breath. So, this fall or winter when you wake up to a cold, dreary day and find yourself badly in need of some sunshine…grab your morning coffee and revisit this Ideabook created in the joyful style of Mary Engelbreit.

If you were building a home in the style of Mary Engelbreit, its exterior would be charming and almost fairytale like. It would be "that" house...the one that MAKES you drive a block out of your way as you're headed home, just so you can pass by it and smile.

If you stopped your car and ventured up onto the front porch...you would be greeted by a bright red door decked out in happy flowers. It would welcome you, inviting you in like an old friend.

Upon entering the home, you'd find yourself in a sunny yellow living room filled with whimsical fabrics. There would be lots of color and pattern and a delightful checkerboard ottoman. Even the ceiling would get a dose of fun.

As you looked around, you'd find bright colors contrasting against black and white checks. Mary Engelbreit design always has black and white checks or squares mixed with lots of bright reds and yellows. And there would be flowers...lots of joyful flowers.

You would find more of Mary's signature look here in the kitchen. Sometimes Mary uses black and white tile on her fireplaces..like you see here above the stove.

The table would be as whimsical as the rest of the house, sporting polka dot dishes and lots of that color, red.

One of Mary's signature loves are cherries...you'll find them in much of her work. Note the cherry-covered pot holder hanging from above in this kitchen.

How would the office look in a home decorated in ME style? This office would do very nicely with it's red and yellow color scheme.

A well done and different approach to the standard Houzz posts. I'd like to see more of these... choosing an iconic person to build your theme. Good job!

The baby's room is certainly cute but beware of safety hazards in babies's room! When little ones start crawling and pulling up they will pull on everything within hands reach. The drying rack and even the curtain will come toppling down on them.

Hi Susan~ ~ ~
Great pictures! What fun! I love her style too and I could move right in to that first house. In fact many years ago I choose a house plan for my dream home and its got all the gingerbread and a big front porch like this one. Even the single gable in the front. I wonder what happened to that plan?

Love the ME look; red, black and yellow against white just shout "be happy!" Am about to redo the kitchen, starting w/ floor. In "Mary Englebreit's Home Companion" hardcover book (p. 30) a wood floor is painted white, then w/ blue (large) squares. I am thinking about doing the kitchen floor this way...on a smaller scale perhaps, as it's a small room. But think it will go nicely with my old house and vintage feeling cabinets, which is but one of the many projects we're working on....yay for ME!
