This is an outstanding northern Italian ebonized and gilt varnished mirror. Pierced overhanging foliate scrollings center on a mask flanked by laurel leaf drapery. This is likely Roman and circa 1720. A similar but more elaborate mirror is now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Call, if you like, for further provenance. H. 43 1/2", w. 31"
