A round fixture would probably be okay, but I think you are on the right track thinking rectangular.

jasellyn Our kitchen is very similar in the way the blind corner is a small cabinet next to the stove--I'm wondering if you can tell me what size cabinet you used for the base blind corner? How did you deal with the dead space? Are there pullouts in the cabinet?

We are going to have chrome fixtures and hardware in our very traditional kitchen. The stove hood and fridge will be false-front like the fridge in this kitchen. Dresser Homes @narpin. I have a client who has that Kohler sink and it has held up very well. I think you cannot go wrong with either choice. One more thing I would add.....you might want to purchase one of those ss inserts which sits in the bottom of the sink. It helps keep the sink from getting marked up.

Kelly Can the Countertops be sealed to avoid rings and such? If red wine were to get on it, and would it be there forever?! I adore the white marbles but am a little afraid!!

Dresser Homes Even when they are sealed, marble counters are very easily "etched" by anything with acidic that comes into contact with them. This includes lemon and lime juice, wine, soda, vinegar, apple juice, and many others. If you have a window in the kitchen which casts a natural light on the surface, the marks are very noticeable. If you could visit someone who has marble in their kitchen and take a look at their "used" counters, it might be helpful. Most of my clients who have white marble get them buffed and polished and resealed every year or so.

Dresser Homes It is a Kitchenaid with overlay panels. Personally, I prefer the Subzero. It is probably a few thousand dollars more but I think it is worth it. Especially if you are looking for a built-in look. And their new model has an ice/water dispenser in the door now.

When doing a kitchen remodel, consider purchasing truly custom cabinets that have been made by a local shop. Then you won't have to deal with fillers as mentioned above or seams where you might not normally expect to see them. My GC husband installs both modular cabinets and custom ones (Kraftmaid falls into the modular category) and the results for custom are consistently better.

pantry My sink is a 30" Whitehaus with a 33" apron cabinet from Kraftmaid, in the Parkdale line of semi-custom cabinets. (I just measured it.) The Bondo filler that I mentioned above resulted in a perfect finish: I applied it, sanded the finish and kept applying and sanding until I built up the filled-in space to be flush with the cabinet. Then I used the expensive Kraftmaid paint over it and the match is unbelievable. It's perfect, and I'm one of those people whose almost impossible to work with because I'm so picky. I had all of my granite pulled out and replaced, and my floors all re-sanded at no cost because each job was significantly flawed. Of course, you have to be committed to putting lots of TLC into the work if you're going to do it yourself and have it come out right.

sairac Can you tell me what size insert you would install over a 36" cooktop? TIA

Dresser Homes @sairac. If there are wall cabinets flanking the 36" cooktop, I would probably make the insert 30" wide at most. That would leave 3" of tile on each side (outside the border). As far as the height goes, I would keep the same 3" of tile outside the border on the top and bottom. You also should keep in mind the size of the tikes you are using for the border. If they are 6", then the dimensions shd be a multiple of 6" so as to avoid a little cut piece.
You should have your contractor or tile installer draw the design on the drywall so you can visualize it.
