Jean Marsh Design Good old fashioned Nasturtiums, the flowers are edible. In the cooler and wetter winter months they go all over the place, always fun.

added by Marianne Lipanovich to Edible Flowers Offer a Sweet Taste from the Garden
Nasturtiums are not only one of the easiest flowers to grow, they're versatile in the kitchen. All parts are edible, and they have a somewhat sharp and peppery taste that may be unexpected. They're a colorful addition to green salads. You can also chop up the leaves and petals and add them to butters or vinegars. Use them as a final decorative touch as well, whether pressed into a round of goat cheese or topping a chocolate cake.

Sow seeds of nasturtium for a beautiful carpet of color; harvest flowers and tender seed pods for a spicy addition to salads.
added by J. Peterson Garden Design to Texas Gardener's February Checklist
Sow seeds. Many herbs, vegetables and flower seeds can be sown directly into the garden soil this month. Try sowing seeds for chives, cilantro, dill, parsley, sweet peas, nasturtium, cosmos, beets, carrots, endive, kale, lettuce, parsnips, mustard greens, peas, radishes, spinach, turnips and rutabagas. Seeds for tomatoes and peppers can be started indoors.

While planning your vegetable garden, try to incorporate companion plants for improved plant health. Good partners for tomato plants include members of the onion family, carrots, parsley, cucumbers, nasturtiums and marigolds.

Some Favorite Plants to TryNasturtiums are some of my favorite flowering annuals (plants that live only for one season) to mix in with vegetables. They are very common and can be bought at any local nursery. Their leaves are as beautiful as the flower.

The railings: from my mothers Apple tree! I trimmed it for her and had all of this wonderful straight apple wood, thinking "I'm going to need this for something..." I took it all home with me. The white is a bit of Birch cutting I had.
