Since oak has a lot of grain, I would look for a wood species with a more uniform look like maple.

I agree; and if you can, go further to differentiate between the two. For example, instead of wood flooring, try a different material completely, like concrete, slate, cork, etc. to compliment the wood instead of fighting with it. : )

Cabinet color seems to be similar to ceiling and trim color which is listed as Navajo White by Benjamin Moore.
