I like the illusion of columns framing the kitchen entrance. Great use of space above standard size cabinetry to fill awkward, hard to clean space. This is a good way to change the look of standard cabinetry while adding character and usable storage space.

I love wainscoating - it gives rooms and neat, orderly feel. In this room, I also really like the column feel flanking the entrance to the kitchen.

Illusion columns, easy and very effective.
