It really depends on the cabinet color for the perimeter and island - can you share a bit more info?

Hi there,
The perimeter cabinets would be in white (vanilla) shaker style.
The island would be cherry with a dark-redish stain.
The floors in slate (with rusts/greens/charcoal/purples etc)
and the adjoining room(s) would have bamboo floors.
We have a small house... I feel that too many differences will make the house feel choppy. We already have agreed on white cabinets and dark island cabinets... if we have 2 different counter tops, I think it will look mish-mashed instead of intentional.
What do you think??

Because the floors are slate, I would suggest sticking to the same countertops on both island and perimeter - there are a lot of materials going on. If you had bamboo floors throughout, I think it would be fine to do a different material on the island, but I would stick with something simple - not a lot of speckles or veining. Concrete is option as well - it's very subtle.
